Foursquare Rum is produced by R L Seale, one of Barbados’ oldest trading houses, a family-owned business whose involvement in rum-making extends from father to son since 1820. The owner and talented head distiller, Richard Seale, is one of the region’s most innovative distillers and blenders and has a passion for producing perfect rum with great flavour. He also campaigns for clarity in the labelling of rums.

The Foursquare Distillery occupies the site of a former sugar factory that dates back to 1636 and, as one of the most modern and efficient rum distilleries in the world, is designed to be both highly energy-efficient and environmentally friendly. Foursquare rum is made from locally owned and sourced sugar cane converted to molasses, fermented very slowly over 44 hours with South African yeast and then distilled. The rum is a blend of pot still and column still rums. The pot still rum brings complexity and flavour whilst the column still rum adds balance and aroma.

Foursquare Magisterium is labelled as a single blended rum which, in the proposed Gargano / Seale Categorisation of Rum, is a blend of double retort pot still and traditional twin column rums from a single distillery, the direct comparison being with Blended Scotch Whisky – read more here.

Foursquare Magisterium is a blend of rums crafted using both copper double retort pot stills and continuous twin column stills at Foursquare. This exquisite rum is aged for sixteen years in a combination of ex-Bourbon and ex-Sherry casks. Specifically, it features three aged rums: one aged sixteen years in an ex-Bourbon cask, and two that undergo dual maturation. The first has three years in ex-Bourbon followed by thirteen years in an ex-Oloroso Sherry cask, while the second spends nine years in ex-Bourbon and an additional seven years in ex-Oloroso Sherry. This is sure to delight Foursquare Rum enthusiasts.

Foursquare Magisterium is fully matured at Foursquare, before blending and bottling. Bottled in 58% ABV without chill filtration, at its natural colour, and free from sweeteners and other flavourings.
