Lapostolle Cuvee Alexandre Chardonnay, Atalayas Vineyard

Lapostolle Cuvee Alexandre Chardonnay is made using 100% Chardonnay grapes from Lapostolles’s Atalayas vineyard in the Casablanca Valley.

Lapostolle Wines was founded by Alexandra Marnier Lapostolle and her husband Cyril de Bournet in 1994. Today Lapostolle owns 370 hectares in three different vineyards and produce a total of 200,000 cases spread over Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Carmenère, and Syrah. Lapostolle winery is located in the town of Cunaco, right next to Santa Cruz. It is the original winery, where Lapostolle was founded in 1994 and today it is here where both the Casa and Cuvée Alexandre wines are produced. With a traditional Chilean old hacienda style, it has a production capacity of 3,300,000 litres in stainless steel and French oak tanks, and more than 3,500 French Oak Barrels. Lapostolle’s Atalayas Vineyard is located in the heart of the Chilean Costal Cordillera, only 22 km away from the Pacific Ocean. Its rolling hills offer steep exposures which are the source of an array of meso-climates. The conditions allow Lapostolle to produce different lots, each with a unique personality that contributes to the final blend.

For the Lapostolle Cuvee Alexandre Chardonnay 2015 vintage, 82% of the juice was fermented in French oak barrels at 15-18°C and 18% was fermented in stainless steel tanks at 12-14°C. After fermentation the Cuvée Alexandre Chardonnay was then 100% aged in French oak barrels for 11 months (49% in new French oak barrel and 51% second and third use French oak barrel). The result is a well integrated oak with elegant structure to enhance the natural acidity and freshness. No malolactic fermentation was done.
