Foursquare Touchstone Single Blended Rum 61%

Foursquare Touchstone 14 Year Old Single Blended Rum is part of Foursquare’s Exceptional Cask Selection (ECS) range of Rums. This is the 22nd (XXII) release in the ECS series and it is a Single Blended Rum bottled at 61% ABV. A most welcome return to Cognac casks!

Foursquare Rum is produced by R L Seale, one of Barbados’ oldest trading houses, a family-owned business whose involvement in rum-making extends from father-to-son since 1820. The owner and talented head distiller, Richard Seale, is one of the region’s most innovative distillers and blenders and has a passion for producing perfect rum with great flavour. He also campaigns for for clarity in labelling of rums.

The Foursquare Distillery occupies the site of a former sugar factory that dates back to 1636 and, as one of the most modern and efficient rum distilleries in the world, is designed to be both highly energy efficient and environmentally friendly. Foursquare rum is made from locally owned and sourced sugar cane converted to molasses, fermented very slowly over 44 hours with South African yeast and then distilled. The rum is a blend of pot still and column still rums. The pot still rum brings complexity and flavour whilst the column still rum add balance and aroma.

Foursquare Touchstone 14 Year Old is a labelled as single blended rum which, in the proposed Gargano / Seale Categorisation of Rum, is a blend of pot still and traditional column rums, the direct comparison being with Blended Scotch Whisky – read more here. Foursquare Touchstone is a blend of twin column still and artisanal pot still distilled rum from a single distillery (hence “single blended rum”).

Ex Camus Cognac casks were filled with 2008 Vintage, 12 Year Old Foursquare ex bourbon cask Single Blended Rum, and matured for a
further two years to complete its dual maturation. This Rum was then further blended with another 14 Year Old Rum; A dual maturation comprising 5 years in ex bourbon cask, followed by a further 9 years in ex Cognac cask. Single Blended Rum bottled at 61% ABV without chill filtration, at its natural colour, and free from sweeteners and other flavourings.
